Hong Kong company tax filing

Returns prepared, deadlines tracked and IRD enquiries handled.

Hong Kong companies generally file a profits tax return each year. We prepare profits tax returns (BIR51), individual returns (BIR60), property tax returns and employer returns, and can act as your tax representative, apply for extensions and respond to IRD enquiries, from HK$1,000.

Hong Kong profits tax rates

Hong Kong companies generally pay profits tax on a two-tiered basis: 8.25% on the first HK$2,000,000 of assessable profits and 16.5% thereafter. Rates and concessions may change; the IRD's latest guidance prevails.

When is the return issued?

The IRD generally issues the first profits tax return about 18 months after incorporation and annually thereafter. The actual issue date and filing deadline are set by the IRD; a company should not assume that no return means no obligation.

Filing process

  1. Collect accounts, financial statements and supporting documents.
  2. Review income, expenses and adjustments.
  3. Prepare and file the return.
  4. Apply for an extension or provide further information if needed.
  5. Follow up on IRD enquiries and assessments.

Extensions and tax representation

If a return cannot be completed by the deadline, a tax representative can apply for an extension. The IRD decides whether to grant it and for how long. We can act as your tax representative and handle correspondence, objections and enquiries.
